Lillian Leadbetter Releases “Forth of July,” is a sad girl summer anthem.
“Fourth of July” began as a response to the complex transition from anger and resentment to relief and gratitude. Reflecting on the decay of a chapter in her relationships and life, though painful, was formative and deeply necessary.
As that summer wore on, the growing divide between morals, desires and shared reality in her relationship began to deepen and calcify.
"I found myself on the opposite side of an ideological spectrum from the person I had told myself I loved." - Lillian
The distrust and fractured perspectives had festered and struck Lillian as a microcosm of a larger systemic, social and political dissonance.
Produced, written and recorded in Nashville, TN, with the vision and support of multi-instrumentalist producer, Thorleifur Gaukur Davidsson.
"I now know love that is built on support and expansion.
Looking back I am thankful I listened to my heart and rejected a love that would have never fit the person I was meant to become." -Lillian

lyrics
Fourth of July
You throw ‘em back time and time again
It’s gettin’ hard to hide
I quit drinkin’ when summer began
Sun’s in your eyes
Gettin’ high on the beach with your friends
They light up the night
And I try my best to fade into
Your favorite colors,
Red, white and blue
There’s nothing more American
Than making promises that never come true
Toein’ the line
Been feeling cold footed lately
I’ll keep that in mind
The next time you’re callin’ me “baby”
Sparks on the wire
Guess you’ve got nobody else to blame
Playing with fire
Like a moth drawn to the flame
